Perseverance is the difference between those who ultimately succeed and those who fail!
We hear the word Perseverance just about everywhere, but what does it mean to persevere?
Perseverance is continuing to do something in spite of obstacles or difficulties.
In my personal opinion…
Pereseverance is the one best quality to have above all else!
I don’t care what you’re current situation is! With perseverance, you’re bound to succeed.
This is by far one of the most important ingredients that makes up a successful person.
Anyone who has achieved an ultra high level of success will tell you this true…
expect to face obstacles when working towards a large goal. It’s simply part of the process!
How do you Develop Perseverance?
First, you need to develop a strong sense of faith that you can actually have the “thing” you’re working towards.
In other words, you’re level of “Belief” is critical in becoming rock solid.
If you don’t believe success is possible…
then you won’t be able to stay motivated to continue when the going gets tough.
Trust me, if it’s easy now, you’ll eventually encounter obstacles along the way that will aim to derail you.
Here’s the dilemma…
if you don’t have self belief, chances of quitting the thing you started are much higher…
so when you do quit, you forfeit any chances of success and that feeds into the idea (which can have a long term lasting effect) that you couldn’t succeed anyways.
This can become a regular habit…
and one that can be crippling to moving forward in life on many different levels.
On the other hand, if you believe you CAN succeed…
chances of giving up go down sharply in direct proportion to your level of belief.
This doesn’t make you exempt of obstacles and challenges! It simply means you’ll be much more resilient when obstacles arrive.
Self belief will eventually lead to your success. It’ll help you when faced with temporary defeat…
it’ll make the journey much more bearable and bring to light opportunities to course correct your path along the way.
This is what they call a self fullfilling prophesy!
The heart of success, is the ability to persevere. But how do we encourage this quality in ourselves?
Be aware of your desire to give up too early, and of the truth that persistence will almost always lead to success.
When you start a new project, make a promise to yourself that you will try it for a specific period of time and won’t quit before that time is up.
Make the interval of time short if you need to, but no matter what, keep your promise and do not quit before the time you have specified.
When the deadline arrives, you can then decide if your strategy is working and you should continue in the same manner, or if you need to make adjustments in your strategy.
Allow yourself to abandon one strategy in favor of another after you’ve given it a fair trial, but never quit on your goals. Only change your strategies.
My Story on Developing Perseverance
just about every major accomplishment in my life,
from getting into college, to graduating at the top of my Mechanical Engineering Class, to landing a great career, to getting married, to having two wonderful kids, to buying my 3rd House before age 30 ….
all of these things required a mass amount of perseverance!
None of these things was absent of obstacles or tough times. In fact, things could have been pretty darn easy if I just layed back and “took it easy”.
I’m greatful for God’s helping me to persevere…
because it’s allowed me to continue giving to others and hopefully inspire others to bring out the best in themselves.
If you’ve got a dream, go for it! There’s nothing in this life you can’t achieve without some Belief and Perseverance.
To Your Ongoing Success,
