Did you know that by simply getting up 3 hours earlier each day you can add an extra 1100 hrs or 45 days of productive time to your life each year.
The average person sleeps anywhere from 8 – 9 hours daily.
Here’s the thing, less than 1% of the population gets up earlier than 5 AM with the intention of doing extra work for themselves. For the most part, the 1% getting up is usually high achievers and other very successful people… or soon to be ultra successful.
I don’t mean to brag, but I’ve personally been getting up at 4:30 – 5 AM daily for YEARS! The habit formed back when I was in Engineering School… it really was my way of surviving and making it through an aggressive curriculum.
Little did I know that the habit I formed my Freshman year in college would be the very habit that would help me succeed in school and beyond!
I’ve taken the time to layout 10 HOT Tips that should help you join the 1% of Early Risers achieving big things…
10 Tips To Help Get Your Ass Out Of Bed1. Change your beliefs about getting up early
Before you do something successfully, you must first see it and believe it in your minds eye. Re-program yourself to believe that getting up early is simple. In time it will become simple, trust me on that.
2. Don’t eat several hours before going to sleep
The quality of sleep is really what makes this work. A good solid 5 hours of sleep is much better than a sloppy 8 – 9 hours. Avoid eating past 7 pm or drinking coffee, black tea or anything else that will prevent you from a good nights sleep.
3. You need a good reason to get up early
It all sounds nice…
but in order to form the discipline of getting up early daily you’ll need to have a very BIG reason to get your ass out of bed at the crack of dawn every single day.
Make sure you crystalize this in your mind. Just letting ya know, the temptation to just roll over and hit the snooze button will always be there.
4. Calm your mind before going to bed
Turn off the TV at night!
Pick up a book and read something positive before going to bed. Not only will it calm you and help you rest, but it’s also good for your subconscious mind. It will help in reprogramming you for success.
5. Make a firm decision to be an early riser
Decide that you will get up at 4 or 5 am no matter what! Leave no room for failure. Don’t just “try”…
Do it! Your future self will thank you for it.
6. Don’t Hit The Snooze
If you hit the snooze, chances are you won’t get back up! Next tip will help with this one…
7. Put your alarm clock out of reach
Put your alarm clock on the other side of your bedroom. This will force you to get your ass up! If anything, it’ll suck at first, but over time you won’t even need your alarm clock anymore. The habit will be formed.
8. Time to fully wake up
Something I do from time to time is get a short workout in…
maybe about 10 – 15 minutes of cardio. Always helpful.
9. Be proud of your achievement
It’s easy for guilt to set in …
you may find it tough at first to be effective so early in the morning.
Over time, you’ll find this time to be your most effective. I know I do. It’s the only time in the day that my wife and kids are asleep. It’s sacred to me!
Be proud of yourself for forming this new habit.
10.Make sure your nutrition is healthy and balanced
Make sure you’re taking care of yourself. Success means nothing if your health is out of wack! It will impact your productivity immensly. I’m truly guilty of falling short on this one this year. As a result, my productivity has also fallen short.
This is one I’m working on as you read this.
Fitness and Nutrition are extremely important and a big part of the whole package.
In closing, by forming this new habit you will gain additional hours, days and years of productivity to your life.
The temporary sacrifice of sleep will will not matter as much after you look back and see all the achievements you were able to reach all due to your discipline of rising just a bit earlier than the masses.
If not for yourself, do it for your family. They’ll thank you later for it 😉
To Your Success,
