Have your Kids wanted to Fly Like Peter Pan?
For the passed two weeks, my son has been totally OBSESSED with flying like Peter Pan!
He wakes up each morning anxious to crack my laptop open and watch YouTube Videos of Peter Pan Flying …
… or of people on the Peter Pan Disneyland Ride.
In no way is this a mistake! That is, his obsession with flying.
I’m at Fault for planting those seeds into my sons mind.
Let me explain why this is.
Why I’m at Fault for My Son’s Peter Pan Obsession
Just about every year I take my son to Disneyland … usually in December to experience the Christmas Lights and atmosphere.
This time I got the 1-Day Park Hopper …
… so we first hit the streets over at California Adventure!
We blew through almost all the rides before the crowd built up … and until my son swallowed his tooth with a churro, Lol. (That’s a whole another story. Read my blog post later.)
We made our way over to Disneyland around 12 pm … as usual, we went over to the Kiddy area.
So my sons say …
“Dad, Dad … can we go on the Peter Pan Ride?”
Little did I know this would be the beginning of his obsession with flying.
Before our trip to Disneyland, he wanted to become a Firefighter.
All of sudden he wants to become a Pilot, Astronaut … or just about anything that fly’s, so he can be like Peter Pan.
The next weekend I took my son to the San Diego Air and Space Museum.
I thought to myself, let me show this kid what flying is all about (that was my inner Mechanical Engineer trying to quench my son’s curiosity).
Ever since our trip to the Air and Space Museum it’s been all about “Flying like Peter Pan” … and, “Dad, carry me so I can fly!”
Why the Peter Pan Experience Planted a Seed of Large Proportion
When I was a kid, I wanted to become an Cartoon Artist for Disneyland.
Where did this idea come from?
It came after I won an Art Contest in the 2nd grade.
This BIG DREAM carried me all the way through school. The BIG DREAM pushed me along the way to get good grades and focus on the end goal … getting to College, and eventually a Career.
As silly as it may sound, my son’s obsession with Peter Pan may later become his anchor in life.
The fact that he now wants to become an Astronaut tells me he’s leaving all limiting thoughts …
… and THINKING BIG!
I hope he’s able to keep this planted seed deeply embedded in his mind. It’s what will hopefully help him make better choices and decisions later in life.
So What’s the Point?
Plant seeds of greatness into your kids! Do this consistently, do this everyday.
As a parent, that’s our job. To help them BELIEVE that all things are possible with Consistent and Persistent HARD WORK.
